We will be informing you of up-coming craft events – shows, classes, guild events, etc., along with crafty hints and tips.

Feeling the need for a quilt show to shake off the post-holiday blues? Time to head for Punta Gorda for the “Gathering of Quilts” show Friday, February 26 from 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday, February 27 from 9 am to 4 pm. It’s being held at the Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center, 75 Taylor Road, Punta Gorda, FL 33950. There will be demonstrations, door prizes, a merchant mall, special exhibits, antique quilts on display, and much more. The show is presented by Disconnected Piecers Quilt Guild, Inc. There is a donation of $6.00. For more information, contact either Joan Balmer at 941-276-1647 or Peg Nederveld at dpqg@yahoo.com. Hope to see you there.

If you love patchwork, but are not into the “quilting” part, contact Sue Feeney at The Quilted Touch at 407-846-6325. She will take very good care of you and your quilts!

When you handsew, if you pull your thread through beeswax – available at quilt and fabric stores – it helps keep your thread from tangling. This does seem to work whether you are hand quilting (yes, some people do still hand quilt!) or hemming a pair of pants.

We will be informing you of up-coming craft events – shows, classes, guild events, etc., along with crafty hints and tips.

More on Into the Garden Quilt Show presented by Ladies of the Lakes Quilter’s Guild. The show will be held March 5-6, 2010 (Friday & Saturday) at The Imperial Swan Hotel, 4141 South Florida Avenue, Seventh Floor, Lakeland, FL. Admission is $5.00. Visit www.LadiesoftheLakes.com for more details on how to enter your quilts.

Also – check out your favorite quilt shop this week. Many will be having clearance sales to cut down on the inventory count! In particular, Lillie’s Quilting Loft in St. Cloud has all regulary priced fabric on the bolt on sale, in addtion to other specials. These specials will be available December 29 & 30. Don’t forget that the clearance fabrics are in the back of the shop!

One of the most basic tips that I can’t emphasize enough is – always close your rotary cutter when you set it down. Just one wrong move and you can end up in the emergency room, and you can’t sew in there – what a waste of time. (And remember to keep your fingers out of the way when you cut.)
