The Kissimmee Police Department has added two “Spyder” motorcycles to their traffic enforcement division making the KPD the first agency in the country to use the Spyder motorcycle as a police vehicle. Traffic enforcement already includes 4 Harley Davidson motorcycles.
We’re all familiar with motorcycle-based trikes. Not much more than a solid rear axle and two rear wheels bolted to the bike. The Spyder, on the other hand, is much more.
The Spyder is more versatile than a patrol car and lighter and more stable than the typical motorcycle used in the traffic enforcement unit.
At around $16,000 each, they are less expensive then patrol cars as well.
Up front the Spyder uses a double A-arm front suspension that offers 5.7 inches of travel to the pair of 14-inch wheels. An anti-roll bar limits the amount of undesirable lean when cornering. The rear end uses a single shock on a conventional swing arm. This makes for a safer and a more exciting ride.

For the safety and protection of the citizens of Kissimmee, we welcome the Can-Am Spyder to the force.
