Teka Village postponed(again),Deal may place Johnson on TDC,a couple picks

While the Teka Village wall/fence fiasco was slated on today’s county agenda, don’t count on it. It’s been pushed back to the 27th of October.

You’ll remember this is the event where the County Commission UNANIMOUSLY approved (on Monday) to contribute funding towards construction of a wall/fence surrounding Teka Village on Old Canoe Creek Road, but then, just two days later(Wednesday), Commssioner KEN SMITH phoned the Teka Village representative to tell him the project would NOT be receiving county funds. We’ve been scratching our heads trying to understand how this could be since the Commission NEVER MET PUBLICLY to have the opportunity to rescind the unanimous vote! We just never realized Smith had so much power! Perhaps the State Attorney, while investigating other allegations, will be able to sort this one out as well.

We understand there may be a way out for Commissioner Paul Owen regarding the TDC appointment for District 1. For the first time Owen may just appoint someone who actually lives within his district. Look for Randy (former state office holder) Johnson, who is now a bigwig with the DESTINY corporation and a major donor(check the record) to the Owen campaign fund. Johnson, is also a very close ally of Jim Murphy, current Chairman of the TDC who has been on the TDC during much of the questionable behavior of that group, including questionable, alleged donations to The Foundation, mis appropriation of TDC tax dollars and also staff spending which was uncovered during an audit of the TDC books. Not the type of legacy anyone would want to leave behind them. Possibly, in comes Johnson, and his good friend Mr. Murphy will be sure to guide and give Johnson tips on how to get through those TDC meetings. What a pal! Now, will the District 1 voters actually buy in to this?

Now, here’s the beginning of our wish list for the elections, as well as who we think will actually win. You know our record(it stinks) but hey, we keep trying and maybe, one day, the voters will get it right! Just kidding!!!!

[More:]

For Property Appraiser we whole heartedly wish for and hope Judge Jeffors Mille will be elected. He’s a good man, and honest man, and because he’s never worked in the office should be an issue for anyone, as it is for his opponant who is quoted she couldn’t understand why he’s running for an office he’s never worked in or a field he’s never had experience in. Uh huh. If we’re correct, (and we are) Atlee Mercer never worked in the office either, but that didn’t stop the Governor from adopting him in to the Appraiser’s Office. We guess Ms Scarborough had a problem with Mercer too. We didn’t know! She boasts about her experience in the office yet idn’t know the hunting club a lot of her family has ownership in, needed to pay taxes! It took Judge Miller to simply ask a question, THEN the Appraiser’s own attorney told Mercer and Scarborough that the buildings on the property were considered tangible property and should be taxed as such. Now mind you, she boasts about her 20 years of experience, yet didn’t even know to tax tangible property!
She has also accepted donations from developers which always brings questions to our minds, and it should bring them to yours as well.
It’s time, and thisis the election year to bring these public offices back to the PEOPLE by voting for Judge Miller.

The Sheriff’s Office is a no brainer and we’re confident we have this one in the bag! Sheriff Bob Hansell returned the Sheriff’s Office to the PEOPLE shortly after becomming Sheriff and he’s never looked back. The one term guy he handily defeated had seperated the Office from the community, but Sheriff Hansell knew, immediately what needed to be done and between him and his mostly teriffic staff, it was done.
Bob Hansell will be elected again, and as far as we can see, he’ll be Sheriff for almost as long as he likes as long as the job keeps getting done!

Clerk of the Court Larry Whaley has done a good job where he is and should remain, and will remain as far as we can see. He needs to make some changes in the jurror section where some staff have been there a bit too long and pretty much talk down to the incoming jurrors, even though they are the ones contributing to their salaries. Other areas of the courthouse, however, seem to be running very well, including the courtrooms. While the dockets are congested, it isn’t the Clerk’s fault there are so many people going through the system. We believe Whaley should stay for one more term and hopefully work on that jurror section.

We’ll return more picks next blog. Meanwhile, we learned some news over the weekend and it’s a bit disturbing. Former Supervisor of Elections candidate, Michael Brigmon, has been diagnosed with throat cancer. He’ll be undergoing more tests and have more consultations this coming week and plans to have surgery the following week. After that, radiation treatments will follow. This is a good man and all we ask is that you place him into your prayers. We wrote him Saturday and he responded, in part, by saying, “I still have hope", “we didn’t plan our beginning, but we can secure our ending, the important thing in between is that we enjoy the journey.” We do wish him the very, very best!

Going back to the TDC/County/The Foundation item being investigated by the State Attorney’s Office, we heard that there MAY be another $40,000.00 unaccounted for. This would make the total at $92,000.00 as we previously stated here several weeks back. Perhaps if the County asks nicely, The Foundation will return the funds, as Mr Smith has suggested? We’ll do it! Hey Commissioner Smith. How about returning the money that was improperly, and quite probably, illegally given to your employer, The Education Foundation of Osceola County? PLEASE return it as soon as possible.

Okay, we did our good deed and hopefully the money will be returned. Now, about the interest…….

We would like to ask Mike Horner, candidate for State Representative, a question. All your mailouts have said all kinds of wonderful things about YOU. We’d like to know WHAT are you going to do FOR us? Frank Attkisson didn’t deliver much for individual homeowners and taxpayers, so what are you going to do for us?

By the way, we also heard that Mr Attkisson may be heading for a position in Tallahassee. Look for an announcement to come from the Governor’s office about a speial appointment which MAY include Attkisson.

Local Republicans are wondering if there will be a wedding in Tallahassee now that a V.P. candidate has been selected. No need for Charlie to marry now?

We thank everyone for their contributions to this blog. We assure you that we make sure it’s mailed to the State Attorney’s office each time it’s printed.

God bless you all. Be healthy, and please, always be safe!

Mike Horner will not deliver anything to anyone except the special interests and his Chamber buddies, (Tommy) I heard that Horner set up a deal to support Lawson Lamar over his Republican opponent, Leon. I wonder if that will compromise the Foundation investigation. In Orange County, the Republican candidate for sheriff is publicly supporting Lamar. Whatever happened to party loyalty? And it goes both ways. Lamar is supporting Tegg over Demmings. Bad mistake.

I think it's great that candidates aren't blindly supporting another candidate due to their party affiliation. We should support candidates on their merit rather than their "party".
However I don't know if the above candidates Rhonda is speaking of are supporting for the right reason.
My thoughts are with Michael Brigmond and his family

My thoughts, too, are with Michael Brigmond and his family. I hope everything works out well for him.

I agree that you should support candidates on their merit, not their party. But when a candidate, such as Mike Horner who is the Republican nominee, takes money and support from the Republican Party, he should not undermine the candidacies of other Republicans by tacitly supporting a Democrat. He is basically using Republican source money and support against the very party who is supporting him.

And take a look at Lawson Lamar. He is openly supporting Tegg over Demmings. This is a slap in the face to all Democrats who have been supporting Demmings. Lawson Lamar will not even publicly support the Democratic nominee for President, Barack Obama. He should not expect any Democratic Party help.

Keep in mind the good old boys use whatever party they can to cut deals to stay in power and deliver the goods for their political allies. Their allegiance is to neither party. Their allegiance is only to themselves.

I imagine it's the same with some local party leaders, Bobbie Gant who supported Republican John Lane over Democrat Charlie Croft, or like now, she's not supporting Obama and instead likes McCain.
As for Horner, if anyone can remember, Carl is right, Horner has NEVER said anything that he'd do FOR us. All he's looking for is to move up the food chain and land an appointment like Attkisson did.
Meanwhile, Horner continues to suck down his Chamber salary while Pete Edwards is begging for the job. They're all jokes.

I forgot about Bobby Gant. She does prefer McCain over Obama, but she would have stayed Democrat if Hilary would have gotten the nod. On the Republican side I heard George Jacow is supporting Gail Eck. He even supported Cheryl Griebs last cycle.

I just want to go on the record as saying that I like Lawson but unfortunately when you talk to him you'll notice that he is 100% politician. I will still vote for him but Lawson, if you win and make this your last go around, get that hunger back from when you first started.

As for Frank, good luck and better there than here. He too has turned into a major politician and North Florida is where he needs to be. In his last term as a Florida Rep. he tended to go where ever his Republican buddies lead him including his buddy Rubio.

Also, did anyone hear that the Slantinel endorsed Mike for Distirct 1? I guess someone other than Mike noticed how much money Owen has collected from developers and special interest groups. Oh, oh. Can this mean that we will be looking at a changing of the guard at Osceola County. Can this mean that someone will ask the top three dogs at the County the right questions? I hope they have started researching their answers because they are going to need them. Think about it. If we get three new Commissioners, do you think they will all want three staff members that the old guard chose for them?

Now to the Foundation. Carl, are you looking into the fact that our County Attorney and County Auditor let this slip through the cracks? I know you thought they were heros with turning down the pay raises for themselves but as I mentioned before they got their money. County Attorney and her number two were given a little extra something for being interim County Manager and County Attorney which if I'm correct was never taken away when they went back to their old jobs and the County Auditor when she recieved an over 20% increase raise just over a year ago. Don't get me wrong Carl, I am not questioning thier motives but I am questioning thier ability in thier current positions.

One more thing. Randy Johnson on the TDC? If Commissioner Owen wants to dig his own grave that will be the way to do it. Randy like Bill Lane is bought and paid for by Jim (I want to be a ganster) Murphy. Carl, am I wrong? Tell the readers how well connected they are and how when issues regarding ethics come up they just happen to be in the neighborhood.

To Joe Taxpayer.

If we do have 3 new commissioners, you could see a changing of the guard. Maybe they can search for a new county attorney.

When the County Attorney and her number two assistant can get up in a public meeting and lie and distort the truth to make it what the commissioners want to hear, we definitely need a change.

Doesn't Bobbi have an Obama sign in her yard? She was at a Obama event with Vallery Biden speaking. Doesn't sound like a McCain supporter

Can't wait to hear Carl's predictions and wishes for the other races.

Does anyone know of ANY debates planned for ANY race?

Bobbi had a Croft sign in her yard as well, but she still supported Lane. She even went to his "victory" party at the now closed chinease restaurant on 192 accross from Osceola Mall.
Signs in yards mean nothing anymore.

What a refreshing thought...a new attorney....and I would love to have yet another County Manager....someone that can actually relate to we underlings...

As for people being loyal to their party, etc....even taking into account RINO's and DINO's, what I have noticed in this county is that race trumps party. Go back and look at your comments. There is a pattern. Lawson is not gonna support Obama or Demmings any sooner than Bobbie Gant will....she won't support Hispanic's either. I wish people did make decisions based upon the merits of candidates. But, if they went with party affiliation, even that would be a huge step up from race being a factor. At least with party loyalty, you are (supposedly) voting for someone that shares similar ideas and ideals as you. Central Florida, Osceola especially, needs a fat lesson in tolerance. All we have had is throat cramming from one extreme to the other. But, let's face it. The economy and many other staples in life are currently in the toity SO, vote for change for the better by making a shift away from the current regime.

Oh! And we are about to be saddled with paying for more of the Casey Anthony crap and Lamar already said he does not have a forensic auditor (when I talked to him about auditing the commission, foundation, etc) so if someone is writing letters, here's an extra twist. S**t rolls down hill, y'all.

Most of the time a forensic accountant or auditor will be hired outside the office if needed. That should not be a problem. Right now he is playing politics with the Anthony case. There is no statute of limitations on murder. There was no need to call off the search for Caylee and convene a grand jury. The only reason for the grand jury at this time is to help him in his reelection campaign. He is using the same MO as Nifong and the District Attorney who tarnished the Ramsey name in Colorado. It is sad that an elected official would stoop to this.

AK - I couldn't have said it any better. Race does trump party, and in Osceola County we see it more than most. I hope that this election cycle will change some of that old tired pattern. If the trend continues and Obama wins I believe the majority of this country will be able to see past race when looking at a candidate. The youth is able to do it, why can't the baby boomers and others open their minds?
Larry- that's sad if what you say is true that signs don't mean anything. Isn't a sign in your yard meant to show your support of a candidate? Doesn't it just seem backwards that you would put a sign of the guy you DON'T want to win in front of a property that is meant to represent you? Why not just refrain from putting a sign up? I'm not saying I don't believe it, I just thinks it's sad.......

People don't want their "friend" to have hurt feelings so they tell him/her to go ahead and put up a sign. Meanwhile they vote for someone else. Happens all the time. I don't think it's right, but that's what happens! You be a better help to a candidate telling him he didn't earn your vote, but that would require total honesty!
