While the Teka Village wall/fence fiasco was slated on today’s county agenda, don’t count on it. It’s been pushed back to the 27th of October.
You’ll remember this is the event where the County Commission UNANIMOUSLY approved (on Monday) to contribute funding towards construction of a wall/fence surrounding Teka Village on Old Canoe Creek Road, but then, just two days later(Wednesday), Commssioner KEN SMITH phoned the Teka Village representative to tell him the project would NOT be receiving county funds. We’ve been scratching our heads trying to understand how this could be since the Commission NEVER MET PUBLICLY to have the opportunity to rescind the unanimous vote! We just never realized Smith had so much power! Perhaps the State Attorney, while investigating other allegations, will be able to sort this one out as well.
We understand there may be a way out for Commissioner Paul Owen regarding the TDC appointment for District 1. For the first time Owen may just appoint someone who actually lives within his district. Look for Randy (former state office holder) Johnson, who is now a bigwig with the DESTINY corporation and a major donor(check the record) to the Owen campaign fund. Johnson, is also a very close ally of Jim Murphy, current Chairman of the TDC who has been on the TDC during much of the questionable behavior of that group, including questionable, alleged donations to The Foundation, mis appropriation of TDC tax dollars and also staff spending which was uncovered during an audit of the TDC books. Not the type of legacy anyone would want to leave behind them. Possibly, in comes Johnson, and his good friend Mr. Murphy will be sure to guide and give Johnson tips on how to get through those TDC meetings. What a pal! Now, will the District 1 voters actually buy in to this?
Now, here’s the beginning of our wish list for the elections, as well as who we think will actually win. You know our record(it stinks) but hey, we keep trying and maybe, one day, the voters will get it right! Just kidding!!!!
For Property Appraiser we whole heartedly wish for and hope Judge Jeffors Mille will be elected. He’s a good man, and honest man, and because he’s never worked in the office should be an issue for anyone, as it is for his opponant who is quoted she couldn’t understand why he’s running for an office he’s never worked in or a field he’s never had experience in. Uh huh. If we’re correct, (and we are) Atlee Mercer never worked in the office either, but that didn’t stop the Governor from adopting him in to the Appraiser’s Office. We guess Ms Scarborough had a problem with Mercer too. We didn’t know! She boasts about her experience in the office yet idn’t know the hunting club a lot of her family has ownership in, needed to pay taxes! It took Judge Miller to simply ask a question, THEN the Appraiser’s own attorney told Mercer and Scarborough that the buildings on the property were considered tangible property and should be taxed as such. Now mind you, she boasts about her 20 years of experience, yet didn’t even know to tax tangible property!
She has also accepted donations from developers which always brings questions to our minds, and it should bring them to yours as well.
It’s time, and thisis the election year to bring these public offices back to the PEOPLE by voting for Judge Miller.
The Sheriff’s Office is a no brainer and we’re confident we have this one in the bag! Sheriff Bob Hansell returned the Sheriff’s Office to the PEOPLE shortly after becomming Sheriff and he’s never looked back. The one term guy he handily defeated had seperated the Office from the community, but Sheriff Hansell knew, immediately what needed to be done and between him and his mostly teriffic staff, it was done.
Bob Hansell will be elected again, and as far as we can see, he’ll be Sheriff for almost as long as he likes as long as the job keeps getting done!
Clerk of the Court Larry Whaley has done a good job where he is and should remain, and will remain as far as we can see. He needs to make some changes in the jurror section where some staff have been there a bit too long and pretty much talk down to the incoming jurrors, even though they are the ones contributing to their salaries. Other areas of the courthouse, however, seem to be running very well, including the courtrooms. While the dockets are congested, it isn’t the Clerk’s fault there are so many people going through the system. We believe Whaley should stay for one more term and hopefully work on that jurror section.
We’ll return more picks next blog. Meanwhile, we learned some news over the weekend and it’s a bit disturbing. Former Supervisor of Elections candidate, Michael Brigmon, has been diagnosed with throat cancer. He’ll be undergoing more tests and have more consultations this coming week and plans to have surgery the following week. After that, radiation treatments will follow. This is a good man and all we ask is that you place him into your prayers. We wrote him Saturday and he responded, in part, by saying, “I still have hope", “we didn’t plan our beginning, but we can secure our ending, the important thing in between is that we enjoy the journey.” We do wish him the very, very best!
Going back to the TDC/County/The Foundation item being investigated by the State Attorney’s Office, we heard that there MAY be another $40,000.00 unaccounted for. This would make the total at $92,000.00 as we previously stated here several weeks back. Perhaps if the County asks nicely, The Foundation will return the funds, as Mr Smith has suggested? We’ll do it! Hey Commissioner Smith. How about returning the money that was improperly, and quite probably, illegally given to your employer, The Education Foundation of Osceola County? PLEASE return it as soon as possible.
Okay, we did our good deed and hopefully the money will be returned. Now, about the interest…….
We would like to ask Mike Horner, candidate for State Representative, a question. All your mailouts have said all kinds of wonderful things about YOU. We’d like to know WHAT are you going to do FOR us? Frank Attkisson didn’t deliver much for individual homeowners and taxpayers, so what are you going to do for us?
By the way, we also heard that Mr Attkisson may be heading for a position in Tallahassee. Look for an announcement to come from the Governor’s office about a speial appointment which MAY include Attkisson.
Local Republicans are wondering if there will be a wedding in Tallahassee now that a V.P. candidate has been selected. No need for Charlie to marry now?
We thank everyone for their contributions to this blog. We assure you that we make sure it’s mailed to the State Attorney’s office each time it’s printed.
God bless you all. Be healthy, and please, always be safe!
As we always say, we really appreciate hearing from you. Your emails keep us going. If you have some information you'd like to pass along, or want to write and chew us out, let it rip! We enjoy it all and remember, Carl Cricket IS you! Email us at carlcrckt@yahoo.com. Disclaimer
