$20 Million in bank but Foundation needs help? Greer to get 150k county contract, Foundation to take 3rd vote on housing projects

Getting right in to it we’ll start with the upcoming vote this Wednesday, the 29th. See Tom Long’s email we’ve copied below.

Greetings Fellow taxpayers,

This coming Wednesday, October 29, 4PM at the Osceola Center for the Arts, The Education Foundation will revote on the government subsidized housing project known as Signature Crossing.

I have fought this project in your name for the last two years. Now I am asking for you to take one hour of your time to attend this meeting. You do not have to speak, just be seen.
There is little chance that I will be allowed to speak, so having many of us there may tip the scales for our side. I will be there early. Please let me know if you are will to spend one hour to take back our county. If you know anyone on this list, please call them to stop the waste of millions of our tax dollars.

[More:]

This afternoon the County appears headed towards awarding Greer Landscaping a very nice mowing contract worth $150,000.00 per year! We don’t think this is what The Sentinel and Gazette had in mind when they said everyone should get along with the school board!

So, there we are, sitting at the most recent vote at The Foundation when the accountant says they have $20 Million in the bank! Huh? What’s he say??? That’s right, it was loud enough, and certainly clear enough. Could this be true? $20 million in the bank, but The Foundation only gave out $360,000.00 worth of scholarships, part of which came from areas outside of The Foundation.

Why is this NON PROFIT holding on to that much money, if this is true?? We’d sure like to understand the logic behind going after taxpayer’s money when The Foundation could well afford to float the $2 Million they’ll be asking for, presumably on November 10th! If the projects are such a wonderful deal for all, wouldn’t you think they’d just go ahead and use their OWN money? SHAME on them.

The Teka Village fiasco comes to the county agenda, once again, this afternoon when commissioners are expected to finally vote their denial to fund approximately half the cost of the village’s new wall/fence. By the way, it’s already up.

You’ll recall this is also the subject Commissioner Ken Smith apparently took upon himself to tell the Teka Village rep, TWO DAYS AFTER THE VOTE they would not be getting the funding as voted. No other official county meeting between the time of the vote and the time of Smith’s call to Teka, so you tell us, how does Commissioner Ken Smith make that call without any official action by the County Commission?

If you say hmmmmm, you’re not alone. The State Attorney’s office is well aware of this one as well! With all that’s going on with the illegal expenditure of TDC funds, Commissioner Ken Smith’s employment at The Foundation, the receiver of those illegally spent TDC funds, and then this call made by Commissioner Ken Smith to the Teka folks, makes you begin to wonder what the word ethical behavior really means!! Sniff, sniff… It certainly does NOT pass the smell test!

Finally, we need to cover one more election race, as we’ve been reminded about a hundred times over the weekend.

In the Kissimmee Seat 1 race for City Commissioner we support Art Otero.
Gail Eck is an absolutely nice woman, smart, and very pleasant, BUT, she’s worked for Mr Durbin for many, many years. We just find it difficult seeing her turn the tables and NOT continue to take instruction from him. We need new, and fresh faces in City Hall government and Art Otero will fill that bill!

God bless you all. Be healthy and please, always be safe.

**One week to go to Election Day!!!

This just ices the whole darned cake! $20 million in the bank and we have kids graduating who can't get a couple thousand in scholarships? Since when can a non profit keep that kind of money around? And what a LIAR Pete Edwards was when he tol the news people they'd just have to cut some money from other areas in order to pay the county back their money! This while he was showing a slight grin. What a bag he is!
I quit Osceola, you win. I'm done.

Don't go anywhere yet Larry! That's what these yo-yo's want. We give up, they win. Ain't gonna happen while I can draw a breath.
Today, the commission voted to "correct a wrong" by telling Teka Villagers to take a hike. Smith sat there like a lamb. Meanwhile, the attorney behaved and there was no cat fight between her and the manager.
Now Teka is asking for $12,000.00. Maybe Smith could give them money out of some of his kickbacks??

"So, there we are, sitting at the most recent vote at The Foundation when the accountant says they have $20 Million in the bank!" So, Carl, if you were at the meeting then perhaps you need to have your hearing checked. The accountant said the Foundation has $20 million in ASSETS. They own two charter school BUILDINGS and the land that ONE charter school sits on. That is NOT the same as $20 million in the bank. "Why is this NON PROFIT holding on to that much money, if this is true?? " It ISNT true. Plain and simple. Next time, take notes.

Actually, they have assets far over $20 million. But hey, let them come forward and print the auditors report in the newspapers. They take money from all the local governments, have offices on government own land, in government own buildings and meet in a government subsidized building. They give out pennies on the dollar while patting each other on the back. Why are they running this like the super secret skull and bones? How much money have these guys been promised to push this through by any means possible?

Visitor, The Foundation has total assets of approximately $27 Million! If you'd like to get into a peeing contest over this, please go ahead. We understand you're a visitor so we'll explain to you. We ASKED if this was true. Now, you say it isn't, so you must be correct, although your total assets were off by about $7 Million. Perhaps you too should be taking notes?

Big deal. Visitor thinks he got Carl on the amount that was asked about. What I'd like to know is what is the Foundation doing with those kinds of assets? Is that a retirement nest egg for Greer and Smith? Maybe it's connected to Tommy T's land schemes and everyone will split the take? I wonder how many people here remember Tommy's little deal on the People in the Park park and how, somehow, they were able to convince Valencia to pay big bucks for land that the school could have had for free, donated by Larry Whaley's family. Even then Tommy's money talked its way right back in to Tommy's pockets as Valencia bailed him out of another floppy land deal.
Now, The Foundation is being used as a charity for Tommy to make some land shifts and oh, by the way, maybe a few bucks on the side???

Larry.

I seem to remember that Tommy got indicted many years ago on some type of land deal. Was that one of the deals that you mention?

Rick,
Actually, the indictments against him and others was not the deal I was mentioning, but thanks for the reminder! I forgot about that.
The deal I mentioned involved the land on Denn John Lane where the city park and Valencia now sit. When Tommy T got involved in that land it was supposed to become the "People's Park" and as quickly as some politicians got suckered into supporting it, they then had to buy out the land and hope to heck that Valencia would purchase the land so some might get back their $$$$. I do not believe Tommy lost any cash on that deal. He does have his hands in the land on Michigan Avenue in St loud, where they tried to force The Preserve onto, and I wouldn't be suprised if he has anything to do with other land associated with The Foundation, thus Chairman Emeritus?

The no vote was overturned by the group. Jay Wheeler is already running around like a little old lady saying the projects will be built. I wonder who will pay for it since ther'e no money budgeted for this farce.
Jay Wheeler is clearly an enema of the people!

I don't understand why they think apartments will be a big draw for professionals just starting out. Isn't the American dream to own your own home, and isn't there an oversupply available in this county at greatly reduced prices? Even if they rent for a year, I don't think anyone wants to stay long-term in apartments, so after a couple years there will be greater vacancies, assuming they can rent them in the first place. Whenever something so obviously does NOT make sense, you can be sure someone is getting rich off the deal. Follow the money, as they always say - it stinks!

Also Fed Up raises a valid concern! Just WHO is making off this project. Start with Tommy Tompkins, who runs the entire Foundation & Kissimmee Chamber with a tight hand. He controls the majority. He also invests in crap deals and then pushes his puppets to spend public tax dollars and non profits' money on this junk.
Next, there's Ken Smith, easily the biggest puppet of all. He rolls over, plays dead, all the tricks you want in a good pet!
Next up is Big Jim Murphy who has always wanted to grow up and be like Tommy. Big Jim has come close, but no cigar, however, he's making good money on getting insider information from certain county puppets. And they wonder why he smles a lot?
Next, look at Paul Owen, who seemingly wants to do the right thing but his greed and desire for more and more money drive him to accept many deals, most, in my opinion, at taxpayers' expense.
Just follow the money. You'll be suprised to see who quietly is making money off all of us.
