Kissimmee "forgets" Chamber, Housing Project developer seeks to take FED money,Public official refuses to answer constituent's questions

Tuesday evening, as budgets were discussed and final votes taken on community groups, someone forgot the Kissimmee Chamber of Commerce! Supreme leader of the Chamber, Mike Horner, was stunned, but never spoke up. The City Manager explained that the item never showed up in the budget, therefore it never made the list to be considered. The item is a $30,000.00 grant the city has given the Chamber to run its small business program.Horner claims the program may be lost, completely, if the City doesn’t fund it. Hmmm, nice tactic, wrong time to pull it.

[More:]

EVERY community agency has taken hits, thanks to the group in Tallahassee where Horner will soon be. If the program is so darned important, perhaps the CHAMBER can cut the money from some of its own additional programs, like lunches for all the fat cats attending the monthly meetings, or perhaps, knock the money off one, or several of the “galas” the Chamber holds for its own self promotion. Either way, taking a $30,000 hit is no worse than taking food away from our senior citizens, or medical coverage from a child, or from any of the many community groups that have already taken the hit.
Now, it’ll be interesting how our city “leaders” respond next Tuesday to Horner’s request to reconsider. IF there’s an extra $30,000 laying around, why? We’ve all been told by the manager that the budget has gotten as lean as it can get, or has it?

At the County’s recent retreat, true to his word, Commissioner Mike Harford brought up the idea of night meetings. It was discussed but commissioners decided to set it aside for the time being. Unless there appears to be more citizens requesting the commission meet in the evenings, don’t count on it. What is good is that it was discussed and not just thrown under the bus. The ball is now in the hands of the people. You want night meetings? Tell the commissioners. We’d suggest considering splitting the meetings by having two night meetings, and two day meetings. Perhaps the first and third Monday for evenings, the second and fourth for daytime. Just a thought.

The out of town & out of County developer, Jonathan Wolf has come up with another scheme. This time going after Federal money from the Neighnorhood Stabilization Program, which gives grants to state and local governments to purchase and redevelop FORECLOSED properties that might otherwise become abandoned and cause “blight” in the neighborhoods. Wolf, along with his new pet, Jay Wheeler, have been trying to sell county commissioners on this new scheme. According to one report concocted by REAL ESTATE RESEARCH CONSULTANTS, they report that the projects have the “full support of the Osceola County School Board". That’s just not true. We know that at least two, and possibly three school board members have NOT been very supportive of this endeavor. Further, reading the report from this new group, it is apparant some conditions, both financially and for qualifying to live there, have changed. The report is slanted to look as though it’s the most wonderful project to assist workers since sliced bread enabled them to bring their own lunch to work! All this rhetoric boiled down and you get misleading and erroneously stated “facts". The Osceola County Commission has made it clear to the Wheelers and Wolfs of the group that they are simply NOT interested. Hopefull, the School Board will have a dedicated meeting towards this item, have a vote, and then move on with more important and pressing issues. We believe that when the final vote is taken, a majority of school board members will do the right thing and vote NO.

Speaking of this project, the State of Florida expects an interest payment on the money given towards this project or wants the money returned by month’s end we’re told. If this is correct, will Jonathan Wolf come to the rescue and pay it knowing what he may get on the other end? Maybe, maybe not. He’s a developer, and a financially well off one at that, so we’re sure he didn’t make his money by continuing to invest in something he’ll not win.

By the way, Mr. Wheeler, why is it that you refuse to answer question emailed to you by a constituent? You’ve been sent several emails from Mr. Tom Long, regarding this project now called Signature Crossing. Although you have received them, you do NOT answer the questions, instead trying to turn it around by asking him which schools he volunteers at. You have done this several times and you don’t seem to understand that many, many people are tiring of your childish behaviors. You seem to tell folks, I’m the elected person here, know eveything better than you, so I can toy with you. Actually, Mr Wheeler, you’re simply making, or cintinuing to show yourself as a pompous ass. You never did answer who paid your golf fees, perhaps that was taken out of your little fund to “spend as you wish” but paid for by the taxpayers? Maybe Mr. Wolf paid them for you? That’s fine, just make sure to file the proper paperwork showing ALL gifts received by you with the Stae, Mr. Wheeler, as we have a feeling several folks will be curious to see who is giving to whom.

You may remember back in October when a dirt bag named Brian Leroy Trumble was arrested and originally charged with 122 counts of lewd and Lascisious molestation and 2 counts of sexual battery on a minor less than 15 years of age. Now, this true dirt bag has had an additional 980 counts of child porn placed on him as well. He’s currently residing at our jail and we sure wish him well with all the other prisoners there who just love child molesters! We only hope he doesn’t get that extra butter he’s been wanting!

Has anyone else wondered why, now that the fuel prices have dropped dramatically, food costs continue to rise? Why power costs are going up? Why just about everything else is going up? Could it be that when we cut back on our driving and used much less gas, the industry got the hint? Perhaps we need to do the same with cherries, now costing as much as $5.00 per pound! How about soda, which has doubled in costs, and of course, there’s the everyday items as well. How about we cut back on that stuff too? How much more can we be expected to pay, especially when some of us are getting cut from our jobs?
We’re not sure about you but, while we really enjoy a cherry now and then, we’ll NOT be buying them at $5.00 per pound, ever!

We’d like to mention that our County Commissioners, well, 4 of them, have been doing a good job as of late, even turning down a project staff was pushing for. Surprise, surprise! A note to the guy under investigation. Mr Smith, STOP “helping” the Chairman! He’s a big guy and he’s got the learning curve going for him. He’s doing a good job, (could speed it up a little) but overall good. No one appreciates your interruptions, Mr Smith, so please, have respect for the other Commissioners and STOP “helping"!

As the Holidays approach us remember to say Merry Christmas to all your friends and family. If it’s another typy holiday, such as Quanza or Chanukah, call it by its name and be sincere!

Until the next article, we’ll simply say, Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, and Happy Quanza.

Be healthy, always be safe, and let’s look forward, together, to a new and better year coming!

Jay Wheeler is an arrogant jerk! It's as if he wants trumpets to proceed him to announce his arrival, with someone announcing ALL HAIL THE ALL KNOWING ELECTED LEADER!

Every teacher I know wishes he would just go away. Every bus driver want him off the board as soon as possible.

Jay tucked away $2000 from a developer outside Osceola for his run at office in 2010. Used some of the money to fix his computer and cell phone for campaigning. Legal folks. Company made 4 contributions under 4 different names.

Agreed on the 2 night meetings 2 day meetings each month for County Commission. Arrington suggested the same thing, call your commissioners they are currently listening.
I do have to complain a little about the night meetings though, isn't 7 p.m. a little late to start?

Grasshopper, who is that developer from outside Osceola that gave Jay Wheeler $2000? Is it Jonathan Wolf or one of his friends?

Carl, what can you find out about this? No wonder little J is so outspoken for those apartments.

FED UP, check the supervisor of elections web page and go into the candidates section. Jay is listed under the 2010 election. He should have a financial filed.
If not, easy way is, Wendover must have given him money, through the names of people like Jonathan Wolf, and others, at the "legal" limit of $5009 per check.

Jay Wheeler has always gotten himself into getting the attention he's wanted. Well, maybe now he won't have to ask for it as I'll wager he just may get some attention from a certain female investigator who's working on the Smith boondoggle.
Jay's out there pushing wayyyy too hard for the apartment projects and I suspect he's not only received $$ already, but he's probably been promised bigger and better support in the future. The people involved with this development just want this too badly, despite the majority of the community's lack of interest!

Remember it was Wheeler that announced he was opening his account early because hundreds of people wanted to send him money for getting school uniforms passed in Osceola county. Seems those hundreds turned into a hand full but the developer money poured in. Shady Wheeler who went to Boston for a Chamber "retreat" on taxpayers dime
a year ago telling the public "tough" when Carl brought it out. The teachers and administrators will love it when he is gone as he camps at schools in his district following the principal around with his mouth flapping about how he has done so much for the schools. The political "I am great" champion just beating out Gemskie in Kissimmee.

We all know that the $30,000.00 not in the budget will get fixed as mark Durbin and Mike Horner are always kissing each other where it counts, to not get this money. Everyone knows that the city is run by Durbin and not the commissioners. People let's wake up and smell the dirt and get with program.

IF the city can find $30,000 just like that, and continue to cut other charitable community organizations, my mind will be made up to get rid of Durbin and everyone else on the commission. Shame on them IF they give Tommy Tomkins' step son, Mike, additional funding. Mike is leaving(hopefully) and should have resigned from the chamber by now. Oh, wait, I just realized he needs to get his Christmas gifts first. Remember, it's always Mike Horner FIRST, the rest of us, in low wind!
This will be great fodder for the next election. VOTE the bums out!

Jay Wheeler has been a great inspiration in bringing people together. Just look at how he has gotten us to reach across the isle to one another, in solidarity, banding as one big, giant boot to stick straight up his.....well, you get the point.

But, this kind of stuff is said all the time about some politicians. Fact is, ya can't just be against a candidate and expect them to loose. You have to help the challenger win. Which of you on here will truly, actively do that?

Also, we can't wait for someone to wreak as bad as Jay. He, like others, should have been cut off a long time ago. All the incumbents on that School Board need to go. Furthermore, Jay better be prefacing his pro-workfArce housing comments to different listeners with "I am not representing the School Board" or he is due some legal spankin's....

Jeanie is right. The County Commissioners are listening. Or at least enough of them are to generate discussion. If you want evening meetings, e-mail or call them and tell them. To make it easy for you, just cut and paste this e-mail list to reach the five of them. My vote is for all weekly meetings at 6:00 PM, but that is because that is what works for me to attend. What about you?

Has anyone noticed the other accountability upgrade that Commissioner Harford requested? The Meeting Actions used to just list Approved or Not. Now they list who made the motion, who seconded it, and how each Commissioner voted. You used to have to watch the video or wait a month for the minutes, but now it shows up quickly online. I appreciate this.

Jay Wheeler ran for office, any office, several times before he landed the school board job. He is arrogant beyond imagination. No matter what the subject, Wheeler thinks he knows better. His attitude towards spending OUR money from his "expense" account is just a beginning example of what type of person he really is.
Carl wrote about Wheeler's thoughts about this account when he said he could spend it however he wanted. He does.
The largest problem is finding someone in Wheeler's district to come out and run against him. I agree that everyone else(Stone and McKay) need to go, but typical Wheeler attitude made him think the two new board members were going to be in his pocket. Surprise! They're in no one's pocket.
Basically, I believe Jay is just a poor example of public service.

As I watch this forum there seems to be a constant trend of Jay Bashing. I will remind everyone here that Mr. Wheeler is now and always been in good standing with the Osceola Republican Party and the residents he serves as well, hence why he holds the seat! Instead of making petty complaints about things you have no knowledge of you should join the rest of the party in trying to persuade him to use the good name and reputation he has built to run for County Commissioner to replace Mr. Pomp himself (Harford) so the board can get back to Business instead of objecting to all progress

Can anyone else see through LET'S HAVE SOME LOYALTY? Hey Jay, you are not in good standing in the Republican party and you are not in good standing with the residents. Didn't you tell other Republicans you should have run against Paul Owen? Instead of placing posts and thinking of RUNNING against a commissioner, you should be concerned you are RUNNING out of time. We Republicans believe YOU are Mr. Pomp.

I don't believe "Let's have some loyalty" is actually Wheeler. It's too well written and the grammer is correct. That is NOT Jay's style and most of you have seen his little emails, so you know what I'm writing about.
But, that said, it's obvious LHSL is not well advised in "the party" because he'd know Jay has not endeared himself with the Republican party, nor with many of his constituents, especially in Celebration (money city for Jay).
LHSL also points to an alleged "good name and reputation" which Jay owns. Clearly, the writer is way out of touch with the reality that Jay has worn his welcome out. People are tired, no, exhausted from his bullying personality, exhausted from his typical pompus ways, but the truth will come out in 2010, nearly 2 years away from now. Lots can happen between now and then, including more self destructive behavior, which Jay cannot resist!

If it is not, we apologize to Uncle Chuck. Stay where you are for now. The D's are up and, obviously, the R's are devouring themselves worse than the D's right now.

Remember that most of the work gets done in the middle, not the far left or far right. People need to work together and the ones that know how to be leaders try to do this. I don't think Jay gets this. He is only an equal opportunist if someone has money in their hand for him...or if he feels like he needs to hurl an insult to pump himself up. Then, he doesn't care what party they are in....because he has his own party in his head to play with!

LHSL has got to be joking. First off I see this blog as being nonpartisan and the only real inside source for info on the doings of ALL local politicians and those valid complaints are what keep them in line or least inform the general public about what they are up to regardless of party. Second if you look up pomp in the dictionary Wheeler’s picture would be right there beside it. Thirdly Mike Harford in the short time he has been in office has really surprised and impressed me with the job he is doing. This is from a guy who voted against him twice. I believe if comm. Harford is to match up against wheeler he will beat him easily.

Let's not forget in our praising of Hartford, he won because of the Presidential campaign. He lost to the famous D Stevens in a school board race.
Have you seen his office, I hear he demanded the conference room be turned into his office, at what cost I wonder? He turned his desk so he faces the wall and his back is to the door. Sure his cal. is posted on the net, anyone checking it's validity, and how many meetings he has not put on the cal? Come on show me some real stuff, I'll celebrate Hartford building a road or solving the jail issues.
Anyway, all that said I do think I'll give him a chance, time in office will tell what kind of a Commissioner he will be. As to Jay the Wheeler Dealer, "power corrupts if you let it".
Any one seen Arrington, nothing in the blog on him. As to the chamber lunches for the wheels, the individual board members must pay yearly for their lunches. As to Thomas C. running for office against Mike in two years, he will probably try to buy the election with his money, but Mike will win the election, Thomas won't do the work necessary to win or learn the issues. As to Commissioners having more night meetings, perhaps one more might be OK. But the OT and other costs to have all there that may be needed to answer questions needs looked into as well as how many folks attend the night meetings anyway. The Commissioners have alwasys moved issues when requested to to a night meeting for the cigtizens anyway. Well it's all just my opinion, and is said, "you don't need a firm grip on the issue to have an opinion".

I do not know anything about what commissioner Harford does in his office, but I do know at the last board meeting he saved us from the onslaught of another unwanted subdivision in my neighborhood. We were beginning to hear the same old song and dance from Ken Smith that it was only a procedural vote and did not approve anything. Commissioner Harford put that crap to rest in a hurry. THANK YOU!!! I don’t care what party he is with its about time someone listened and gave preference to the folks who lived here for decades over people who may come twenty years from now.

I do not think Harford won solely because of the Presidential race. It was because of single member districts. 4 years ago he lost because it was a county wide election. If you looked at the numbers 4 years ago as if it was a single member district, Harford would have won by about 500 votes. He won by more this year because of the Presidential race, but I think he would have won anyway.

CURIOUS, the State Attorney's office is investigating possible conflicts with Smith's connections to The Foundation and the commission. Also, I heard they're checking to see how he could call a citizen, 2 days after a vote on an item, and tell that citizen the vote has changed....without any official meetings between the vote day and his call.
Smith pulls off the act that he's just a country boy and all around home town guy, while actually, he made lots of money on real estate deals, including Canoe Creek Woods which, because of errors in the deals, split the subdivision in half. Meanwhile, Smith continuesto make his money from the commission (60,000 yr) and the Foundation (around 50k yr), plus tips and clips, free meals, trips, and the usual good 'ol boy kicks.

CURIOUS there is no valid investigation on Commissioner Ken Smith! It seems that whenever you sacrifice and chose to serve the community crackpots from every form come out of the woodwork to try to cause problems for you. The fact is anyone can file a report on anyone holding office and the states attorney’s office has to take it seriously even if it has no merit. The attorneys office still has to do due diligence until the baseless charge is dismissed. {What a waste of money} Anyone who knows Ken will attest he is incapable of any wrong doing. So please do not let any of these unknown liberals with an axe to grind confuse you their real problem with Ken is his faith with God. As for the people who love to hate Jay Wheeler I will just tell you to ask Paul Owens about the polling his campaign did last cycle including a question pertaining to Jay’s job approval rating how does 64% FAVORABLE grab you.

LHSL has something correct, Smith IS incapable!
As for Smith's faith in God, what the heck does that have to do with any criticisms people have with Ken? LHSL is sorely missing the world as it travels past him at a crawling speed! Smith's comfort in his position has led him down the path to criticism. Even IF he hasn't done anything illegal, the appearences of his conflicts, and his own actions (seeking donations for one of his employers during a commission meeting) are simply wrong.
As for Jay and his alleged poll, it's obvious that little magic tricks impress you greatly! Anyone conducting a poll needs only to ask a question a certain way to obtain the results you want for your candidate. Anonymous polls are as factual as.....this blog! Some answers are on the money, others are just guesses. LHSL needs to come back to reality and sniff the true bull manure, you'll find the odeer comes from the Smiths and Wheelers!

A poll for Jay probably was high (no, the pollsters weren't high but the poll numbers were) because the average voter doesn't know all of this stuff on the blogs. Remember folks, we who are on here are NOT "the average voters." And, the poll was probably only/mainly conducted in his district. If you come to him with an issue now, that is one of the first questions he asks you, "Well, what district are you in?" "Didn't you contact your board member in YOUR district?!" If someone is in his district OR he thinks they have money for his campaign, all a parent has to do is call and say, "My little Suzie went into the bathroom and there was NO TOILET PAPER! And, it was awful! She had to ask someone else for toilet paper and now I may have to have her in therapy because she was SOOOO embarrassed and probably scarred for life!!!" Two seconds later, "Barney Fife" Muse was running out there or making his staff run out there to install t.p edges folded so Jay could "save the day" again! Now, he's got Grego running around trying to shovel this crap about workfArce housing. Meanwhile back at the ranch, barely half of the students in this district can even graduate! And, there are safety issues to the point where, tragically, we even lost a child to MRSA! Liberty High. Who's district is that?!

Priorities have not been straight on the school board for a very long time. It's so sad. But, the voters probably will not respond to anything but, "He got Susie some toilet paper."
