ST. CLOUD COUNCIL GETS "EAR FULL" FROM COUNTY RESIDENTS

It seemed Thursday night’s meeting would go on and on. County residents from Hickory Hollow subdivision gave council members an ear full. Their complaint was the proposed Florida Rock Plant, slated to be built just North and East of them on New Hickory Tree Road.

This land is now owned by Mr. Randy Wright. Their concerns were the usual air quality, noise, and lighting at night. Many residents spoke in opposition saying that there were already two concrete plants in the same area. Council members did point out to the residents that the designated area for these concrete plants was industrial. They also said that the industrial zone had been in place much longer than their subdivision Hickory Hollow.

[More:]

Mr. Wright came prepared with several experts for his defense. These were environmental, noise and pollution experts to name a few. He was also represented by his attorney. Over the next hour and a half many questions were ask and answered.

A Florida Rock spokesman said this plant will be one of the newest High Tech concrete batch plants in production. And it will be environmentally sound for nature and humans alike.

The council really had no choice but to approve this for the first hearing. This item will be heard one more time before final adoption. I’m sure more people will be back with still more questions in hand. We’ll just have to see where it will go from here………..
