JARIM FERTIC & TOM GRIFFIN LOOSE THE COM-TECH BATTLE ! !

It seemed as though nobody really wanted to take up the discussion of the cities purchasing the old COM TECH building on Communication Blvd. Mr. Fertic really had several good questions about purchasing the property and building. He asked questions about spending over 3MILLION DOLLARS at this time when the economy is in distress. He said, many of our citizens are having to tighten their belts, and I think they expect us to be prudent with their tax dollars also. His words seemed to fall on three council members deaf ears.

Mr. Griffin also asked the city staff about other properties to purchase or lease that might save us tax payers money. He also ask the city manager if any thought had been given to sharing, or leasing the property that sheriff Hansel is going to be using as a maintenance center. The city staff didn’t have many answers for most of his questions. Seems they hadn’t given much thought to that idea.

[More:]

There were several citizens which did get up and express their displeasure about the cities buying property so close to HWY-192. One citizen asked about generating a lot more traffic for that area. Another person suggested that the city would be taking taxable property off the cities tax roll. Someone ask what impact this city owned maintenance building would have on the newly formed CRA and just how it would fit in with the CRA’S HWY-192 project. The answer, nobody had asked them!! It looks to me that our city officials are right back into the swing of BUY AND SPEND!!

Can any of us remember anything else that our council just had to purchase without consulting anyone about it? Maybe the property at the corner on New York Avenue and Lakeshore Drive! What a lump of well I’ll just say -COAL that is to us taxpayers. It seems our other council members just had an ITCH to spend some of our money tonight!!

Don’t get me wrong, I do think the city needs to do something. The cities underground fuel tanks need to be replaced. My only problem is the price we will be paying for replacement tanks in the ground would be much less than buying the COM TECH property.
I’m sure that we all have heard the saying “YOU DON’T THROW THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATH WATER!” There seems to be just to many other options out there besides spending over 3 MILLION DOLLARS……COME ON COUNCIL MEMBERS …….smartness counts once in a while, especially when we the taxpayers are watching! ! ! !

Why is Jarom Fertic such a grouch? Seems as though he always has a chip on his shoulder. If he doesn't like the job he should just leave.

Griffin is only in it for himself. And, he appears to be doing quite well now that he's gotten so much his own way!

Good job by those three council members who actually looked in to the future and were able to recognize the need for this building.
There were never any plans for a "medical city" in that area, although some people seem to think there was.
Not for one minute would the owner of the storage facility tear down his facility so someone could move in a doctor's office. Sid isn't that stupid. Of course, if you were to pay what he wants, anything could happen. The same for Billy Newman who also isn't in the business of giving away property.
It was a good, sound, and smart move by the city to grab up the Com Tech property.
As a taxpayer, I prefer to see the future growth of our city covered.

Two council members that actually demonstrated they have brains! HOORAY
Spending this amount of money in the middle of the commercial district for maintenance building, fuel site and warehouses is a ding-dong decision.

As to the comments left by Guiseppe - YES there were plans for a medical center complex and YES Billy Newman did get zoning and plans approved for medical offices and storage - get your facts straight!

The only "medical city" that has ever been officially discussed is the one located at Lake Nona. At no time did St. Cloud officials, as a majority, ever state they wanted any such project. Had there been interest, a majority of 3 would have voted for such a plan. Very obviously, that did not happen.
I would also wonder if so many were opposed why then would the hospital be happy to work out details for the back roadway in order to keep traffic at a minimum on 17th Street and Kansas Avenue? Most likely because the hospital also sees the need for such a facility and clearly sees that it will not negatively effect them.
Planning for the future is something the city of St Cloud has been doing very well for the past 10 to 20 years. It is unfortunate that some people are unable, or unwilling to see and recognize this.
It's good to have differing opinions, however, in the end the majority casts the deciding votes. Only in the future will anyone, including me, be able to determine if the plan is foolhearty or not.
Thank you Maria for capitalizing your yes's and advising me on what to do. Very calm and collected as usual.
Have a nice day!
Thank you to the St Cloud majority, again, for having the wisdom and sense to continue planning for the city's future needs.

St Cloud sure is lucky to have a smart staff, starting at the top with your city manager. We're stuck with Durbin who pretty much runs the city, including the city commission.
You people should be thrilled to have people there looking out for all of the city.
Not that I would want to see your city lose out, but the county would be very smart to hire your manager to take the place of the idiot the county now has.

TO: Mad Mike If you want Tom Hurt take him, Please as far as Durbin you right he does run Kissimmee, you know what city workers call him "Little Hitler" if the shoe fit's. Has far as the county manager I would not believe a word he says. He looked me in My eye and lied his butt off.

I hate to say this but I helped run Malcom Thompson's campain. He gave me "His Word" that if he won he would give me a job. He left out the part where I had to take a typing test and type 45 words a minute. A redneck like me typing 10 words a minute is more like it. Our court house is gettin worse by the minute. Thier new title is "We Be Crooks"
