Osceola County (December 11, 2015) - Osceola County Sheriff's deputies arrested Alicia Warner, a defense attorney and charged her with 1 count of Child Neglect Without Great Bodily Harm.
The investigation began on December 10 at approximately 9:10 a.m. when deputies were contacted by a witness at the Osceola County Courthouse. The witness indicated she located an unattended 2-year old child wandering in the hallway on the 5th floor. The child who was crying and asking for his mom, was knocking on the door to the attorney break room, just outside courtroom 5F.
Deputies conducted a search of all the courtrooms and offices on the 5th floor in an effort to locate the child's mother.
At approximately 9:40 a.m., a deputy located the child's mother, Alicia Warner who was in the family intake area on the third floor.
Initially, Warner told the deputy her child was only away from her for approximately 7 minutes. Warner said she was separated from her child when the elevator doors closed before she could reach him.
After reviewing courthouse video and further investigation, deputies discovered at approximately 8:25 a.m. Warner entered the attorney break room with her child, several minutes later she left alone, entered courtroom 5F, returned to the break room and at 8:45 a.m. left the break room again.
At 9:07 a.m. the child left the break room. He tried to re-enter, but the door was locked and he was wandering the hallway when the witness located him and contacted deputies.
When deputies questioned Warner about her original statement she told them she left her child in the break room and was checking on him periodically when deputies located her on the third floor.
The child was released to his father and Warner was arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail with $1,000.
